The iPhone has been developed by Apple and is the most widely sold smartphone in the world. The iPhone is a mobile phone which can handle various data solutions and has more functions than a telephone. The iPhone can be regarded as a palmtop computer integrated with a mobile phone, and it can run various programs, known as apps. Users can install and run more advanced applications on smartphones. The iPhone has a virtual keypad on its touch screen. The initial launch of the iPhone took place at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference held in San Francisco, USA on 29 June 2007. It was named "Invention of the Year" by Time magazine in 2007. An updated version, with 3G technology and a GPS navigation system was released on 11 July 2008 under the name iPhone 3G. The iPhone has a digital compass, short upload and download times, voice control and a camera with a resolution of 3 megapixels, autofocus and video recording.
